What to expect
The anticipation of your first appointment might cause you to be a little nervous. When you enter the building just have a seat in the waiting area on the second floor at the top of the stairs, I will come to collect you when it is time for us to meet. My office is also on the second floor, just down the hall from the waiting area. There is an elevator to get to the second floor waiting area if you are unable to climb stairs for any reason. I do not have a receptionist, but rest assured that I will be there to walk to my office with you when your session is about to begin.
If you prefer, we also offer video appointments, and a video link will be provided to you when the appointment is scheduled in order to join the session.
The atmosphere in my office is relaxed and comfortable, half of which is filled with toys and games for the children I work with during play therapy. Please feel free to wear comfortable clothing and bring a drink if you like.
Our first session will be a chance to get to know one another. We will discuss your goals for treatment, set the frequency of sessions, discuss the financial aspects of your therapy, and answer any questions you may have.
My approach to therapy depends upon your goals and my assessment of the type of counseling needed to achieve those goals. I believe the therapeutic relationship is the most important element in successful therapy. I encourage clients to take their time exploring different therapists, asking questions about the approach, specialties, and overall fit. Finding someone you feel comfortable and safe with can make all the difference in your healing and growth.
